When I worked near Herald Square I would hit up Ayza on 31st street for a post-work vino and bite before heading home. But once I left that job, sadly I left Ayza too. A few weeks back I was invited to a food blogger dinner at their newest location in the West Village and I leapt at the chance to reintroduce myself!
At the corner of Carmine and 7th Avenue lies Ayza Wine & Chocolate Bar, on the southern edge of The West Village. Part wine bar, chocolate room and restaurant, this is a great place for a girls night out and an even better place for a second date! Not a first, no it’s too intimate for that, but the space, food and ambiance allows for two would be lovers to enjoy a few hours getting to know each other.
It’s location is quite interesting, the triangular-shaped building allows for a presence on both carmine and 7th avenue and has floor to ceiling windows on both sides. Even with the opportunity for so much natural light, it’s appropriately dark and feels very intimate inside. Saddle up to high tables and full back chairs while candle light looms all around you. The space is not so big that you feel awkward and not so small that you and your neighbors are super close, forced together hearing each others conversations.
As part of the food blogger dinner our menu was pre-determined and featured seven different courses that all featured chocolate in some form or another beginning with a three cheese plate and ending with a dark chocolate fondue! Their wine selection is 90 bottles strong so I opted for wine while my guest went with one of their champagne cocktails. Their selection of food and drinks is quite impressive (especially the wine and cocktail list) but even with the food as creative as it was… it’s not the best part of the experience. This is a great place to get a drink after work, at the beginning of your night before a meal close by or as the site of your final drink before heading home.
Offering a fresh take on the classic wine bar, Ayza is a great spot to grab a few drinks with friends or a date. As the weather perks up make plans to sit on their outside patio and people watch.
