Fanny Gerson’s paletas (under the La Newyorkina moniker) are not your everyday “popsicle”, they are sooo much better! First off, every paleta (aka Mexican popsicles) is hand-made and second, each one is filled to the brim with fresh fruit so you’re not getting the watered down ice pops that we are unfortunately so accustomed to.
I’ve been a fan since I got my first taste at the Big Small Brand Awards in 2011 (she was a finalist). Ever since I make it a point to get one of her paletas at the numerous outdoor food events where I see the cart chilling with a big line of people clamoring to get their hands on one of these icey treats.
The flavors change with the season, but some of my favorites are the hibiscus, avocado (a half an avocado in each pop!), mango chile, guava and cucumber lime. Each paleta is sweetened every so slightly to give it extra flavor but not so sweet or overpowering that you can’t enjoy the taste of the natural fruit chunks and ingredients frozen inside.
Get yourself one of La Newyorkina’s paletas…now that summer has officially begun, its guaranteed to help cool you down. I am jonesing for one of her watermelon paletas… which not surprisingly, sell out almost immediately after she opens up shop.
