Still seeking refuge from the cold? Get out of that apartment and grab yourself a drink to keep warm! Check out my top spots for indoor drinking of all kinda…..because some bars are better suited for wintertime tippling than others!
Fave Fireplace Bar: Union Hall has been a personal fave no matter what season for years now. This former warehouse has a lot going on with a bocce court, restaurant and live music venue but it’s the flickering stone fireplace in the front bar area that seals the deal for me. Call dibs on one of their plush couches or chairs and hunker down for fun.
Fave Beer Bar: A 3-way tie between Blind Tiger Ale House, Jimmy’s No. 43 and Idle Hands. If you want a beer in NYC (any beer) go to one of these three spots or do what I do sometimes and create your own beer crawl by hitting up all three (all within a 20 minute walk from each other).
Fave Dive Bar: Need to drown your sorrows in a stiff drink and a cheap beer? Look no further than Milano’s on Houston. This shoebox of a place pumps out great tunes, affordable drinks, chill bartenders that are always having fun (maybe more than the patrons) and has tons of energy to either get your night started or keep you going all night long!
Fave “Sporting” Bar: Grab a drink (at their full bar) and fire up your competitive side with a good old-fashioned game of ping-pong at SPiN New York. This place is great for dates, to bring a group, or meet new people. This is one place where drinking and sport goes together perfectly 😉
Fave Bar for Groups: City Winery is not really a bar per se but a great spot for groups (or anyone for that matter) to drink some wine and listen to some music (the space doubles as a music venue) in a cozy and rustic setting. Their food menu complements the wine ( mediterranean flavors ) and if you like the wine you’re drinking…. you can take it home!
Fave Cocktail Bar: It may be winter but it always feels like summer at Cocktail Bodega, which puts a different spin on the cocktail bar with, wait for it……liquor-blended smoothies & spiked freshly squeezed juices! Hang out upstairs and pair your inventive drinks with a menu inspired by street food or head downstairs to their “club” titled Cocktail Bodega Underground that gets hot, Hot, HOT!
Fave Outdoor Bar: One of my favorite outdoor drinking spots in Brooklyn, Hot Bird doesn’t let its killer patio go to waste in the winter with their outdoor fire pit! Whiskey Hot Toddie anyone?
